Dolphins Downed By Ramapo, Rebound For Five Set Win Over St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn

Kristine DeMasi totaled 16 kills over two matches on Saturday

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team split a pair non-conference matches on Saturday, falling to Ramapo 3-0 and then coming back to edge St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 3-2. The Dolphins fell to the Roadrunners by scores of 13-25, 12-25 and 21-25 and the rebounded to down the Lady Bears by scores of 25-20, 18-25, 25-11, 15-25 and 15-10.

 

In the opener against Ramapo, the Dolphins hit -.021 in the three set affair while the visitors posted a .229 attack percentage which included a .423 mark in the first set. Kristine DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Mount with seven winners to go along with a service ace and four digs.

 

Morgane Booker (east Providence, R.I.) finished with a pair of total blocks in the tilt and also chipped in with four kills for the Dolphins. Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, N.Y.) also had a solid match with nine defensive digs and three kills.

 

Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) posted a match-high 16 digs against the Roadrunners and also contributed three assists. Erin MacBride (Merrick, N.Y.) would lead the Dolphins in assists after handing out 14.

 

Michelle Ferrarri led a balanced Ramapo offensive attack with 11 kills and a .435 hitting percentage. Elizabeth Steck lifted 13 digs for the visitors and Tiffany Fischer handed out a match-high 22 assists in the winning effort. Ramapo finished the match with 10 service aces.

 

After the sweep the Dolphins regrouped for a hard fought five set win over the Lady Bears. The two teams traded set wins on the day until the Mount finished with nine kills in the fifth set. Kallie Maglione (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) and DeMasi each posted three kills in the deciding set.

 

DeMasi and Booker led the Dolphins with nine kills each in the win with DeMasi also posting 12 defensive digs. Maglione collected eight winners against St. Joseph's, with MacBride and Nepomuceno each totaling five kills.

 

MacBride closed out a double-double with 11 digs and 28 assists in the win. She also totaled six of the Dolphins' 14 service aces. Reynes continued her steady play on the back line with 28 digs and also finished with two aces and a pair of assists.

 

The split on Saturday moves Mount Saint Vincent to 8-6 overall on the season and the five set win gives the Dolphins a 1-1 record in matches that go the distance this season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Monday night when they host Staten Island on Senior Night. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
