University of Mount Saint Vincent Athletics

Giovanni Garufi ’23 returns to UMSV and joins the staff as a Goalkeeping & Assistant Coach for the 2025 fall season. Garufi also overseeing the team’s graphic design and social media pages.

A Binghamton, New York native, Garufi attended UMSV for his final three semesters of schooling. He played goalkeeper for the Dolphins during the fall of 2022 where he appeared in and started six games, including their Skyline Conference playoff game against USMMA. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Visual Arts & Experimental Media.

Garufi began his collegiate career at Elmira College, where he was captain for the Eagles and appeared in 40 games, making 38 starts over his three full seasons played there. He ranks top-10 all time in the program’s history for both lowest-single-season, and lowest-career goals against averages. He graduated Elmira after three and a half years with a Bachelors in Business Administration and a minor in Studio Arts.

Garufi previously coached the goalkeepers at UMSV in the spring of 2023. He has also done goalkeeper coaching in the past for Syracuse University, FC Westchester, and private goalkeeping clinics.
